  • DAB
  • Acronym for "Digital Audio Broadcast". Especially for mobile reception (``car radio'') the quality of the received audio program suffers because of noise and signal drop-outs. These problems are solved by DAB by incorperating the following schemes (among others): Forward Error-Correction (FEC), based on convolutional codes, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Redistribution of the data bits over some time interval (time interleaving).

  • Daimler, Gottlieb Wilhelm (1834 - 1900)
  • German engineer, inventor, pioneer auto manufacturer. Born March 17, 1834 in Schorndorf (Wurtremberg), Germany, he founded the Daimler Motor Co. (Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft), in 1890, which produced the 1889 Mercedes and, later, merged with Benz Co. to form The Daimler-Benz Co. (in 1926). "The best or nothing!", this was Daimler's motto. Together with his colleague, Wilhelm Maybach, in 1883, they invented the first high-speed internal combustion engine and, in 1885, the carburetor using gasoline as a fuel. They also invented the motorcycle, in 1885. Gottlieb Daimler died March 6, 1900 in Stuttgart, Germany.
