  • Volvo
  • A known Swedish company of automobiles founded in 1924 by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson. Their first car, Jakob, was in production by 1927.

The word "Volvo" is Latin and means "to roll on" or "to roll onwards". Combined that with the arrowed circle (alchemist's symbol for iron ore), the famous Volvo logo was created to represent the rolling strength. Graphically, this can to suggest, unfortunately, a stopped rolling, inciting to sundries malicious horseplay. However, the true Volvo graphic identity is "rolling strength" - an apt expression of their unique approach to building vehicles. The arrowed circle is, also, the astronomical symbol of the planet Mars, synonymous with force and ... virility!

Before all else Volvo is dedicated to safety. It begins with a passion for life; a desire to experience both freedom and a sense of well-being. At Volvo safety is a vital, dynamic concept. The quality of their vehicles, and their deep commitment to the people who drive them ultimately lead to another Volvo innovation: the passenger car warranty.
