Ok, these are a few interesting stories about Ford Flatheads...
Story 1 This is the story
of me and my dad... My father purchased a 1940 Ford Flathead at the
age of 16 and restored it with the help of his father. Now, about
30 years later, my father and I are restoring The Ford again. It
was his first car, and it will be my first car. For more, visit my
main page or my history page.
Story 2 This story is
from Dave Mann at Roadsters.Com:
Going to the lake was something our family did every summer. The coolest
boat on the lake was an old Chris Craft wooden runabout that was powered
by a Ford flathead. And the coolest thing I remember about going to the
lake was taking a ride in that boat. It topped out at about 40 MPH, as
fast as you need to go on a small lake, but everybody around could recognize
the sound of the classic Chris Craft. There's nothing like the sound of
a flathead burbling up through the water. In fact, that old boat was so
neat, all you had to do is drive the thing around the lake and you were
about as cool as Buddy Holly.
Story 3 This story is
from hjkopel@ptsi.net: The
airplane was a two place, 100 MPH airplane with a glide/dive max speed
of 135 MPH. It weighed 1675lbs, held 28 lbs baggage, 20 gals fuel and 7
gals of water. Had a wing span of 36'-7" and was 21'-4" long. Engine
spec- Arrow V-8 Model F. A.T.C. #161 82 HP at 3075 RPM w/ a 1.95:1 reduction
gear. Currently this airplane is on display at the San Francisco
International Airport over the Superstair in the North Terminal and the
engine is displayed separately. I would like to thank Director Ron Wilson
of the Bureau of Community Affairs for his help in making these images
available.
