William J. Gittins, early resident of the Griswold vicinity, died Sunday
morning at 10:40 at the Potter nursing home in Anita. He had been in his usual health until taken ill two weeks
ago.
Mr. Gittins was born in Monroe county Aug. 25, 1870, the son of William
and Isabella Gittins and came to Cass county as a child, when the family settled on a farm four miles south of
Griswold. He was married to Della E. Shifflett Aug. 28, 1895 and they resided in the Griswold vicinity until her
death April 7, 1933. Since then he had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Gittins
of Anita.
Surviving besides the son are two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Linn of Atlantic
and Mrs. Hannah Lamborn of Wiota; three grandchildren and five great grandsons. A son, Theron, died March 31,
1939 and he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and John Gittins and two sisters, Mrs. George Senholz
and Mrs. L.H. Pine.
Funeral services will be held at the Roland funeral home Tuesday afternoon
at 2 o'oclock, the Rev. R.K. Derry of the Anita Congregational church officiating. The remains will be at the
funeral home until the service hour and interment will be in the Lowman cemetery southeast of Griswold.

Funeral services for William J. Gittins were held at the Roland funeral
home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. H.K. Derry of Anita Congregational church officiating. Sidney Larsen,
accompanied by Mrs. Lamar Gardner, sang "Under His Wings" and "Old Rugged Cross." Mr. and
Mrs. Wilbur Maththews and Simon Smith were in charge of flowers.
Serving as casket bearers were Guy Smith, Leslie Dorsey, Andrew Jepsen,
Roscoe Koob, Carl Holland and Lamar Gardner. Interment was in Lowman cemetery.
