I bought this car from the original owner. It was garage kept for almost 30 years in the dry air of San Bernardino Ca. It was originally purchased at the Holiday Olds in San Bernardino. It is a perfect running all original, mint condition RUST RUST FREE CA, Fremont built 70 SX. It is an all VIN#'s matching and has all the correct codes for heads, exhausts manifolds, tranny ETC. I have the orig. PINK slip,protecto-plate,window sticker and all the owners manuals.
I first
had a full tune up including a compression test. I had the engine, tranny,
rear-end and radiator completely flushed and filled with fresh fluids.
She received flying colors from the mechanic! I had all ac/delco parts
installed. The only problems were I needed to have the vacuum advance,
ported vacuum and spark delay switches replaced. Other than that she was
mechanically STRONG. I replaced the exhaust from the mufflers back to the
new chrome trumpets, all new rear brakes (the front disc were fine) I put
new tires BF TA's and shocks including the Coil over rear shocks which
I believe came stock. They were listed for the SX from the company I purchased
them from. I detailed the engine compartment, I repainted the valve covers,
manifold and heads.(I'm waiting for a rebuild before painting the block,
she just runs so well and the compression was so good, She just doesn't
need it!!!!) I also did the the air cleaner and in front of the radiator.
I purchased all new stickers to add to the appearance. I love to see the
ROCKET 455 sticker, it keeps the rookies from saying is that a 350? I also
purchased a new armrest pad for the driver door, the chrome strip for the
dash and new center cap inserts for the super stock II's (all from year
one which is were I also got the chrome trumpets)
Now
for her flaws. The clock works sometimes, when your not looking it will
click off a couple of minutes.( well who's stock clock works anyway!!!)
the A/C clutch needs to be replaced, it blows cold, but when it runs for
a while the clutch gets hot (shot out bearing) soon to be replaced. the
driver seat bottom is torn but the rest of the interior is mint. there
is some checking on the passenger side 1/4 and she will need a good paint
job but it should make her a High #2 car.
She
has 126K miles and still gets 15 MPG (2 bbl. carb and 2.56:1 gears) and
yet I pulled a modest 15.759 at 86.29 MPH ET in the 1/4 mile. Not bad for
a 30 year old original!!!!!. Actually I don't mind the gearing I can loose
most anything once she's moving, and just try keeping up on the highway!
( WONDER WHAT A 4 BBL WOULD DO 14's maybe?) It could happen!!! Plans for
the future Besides the Paint I want to have the stripes for the hood and
rear deck, possible the w-25 hood for looks. A four barrel setup (anyone
with a nice stock manifold and carb please email me. I dream for the stock
aluminum 455 but who doesn't?)
This
car is really an unmolested highway miles car. It was owned by a very nice
woman who was a flight attendant and commuted in this car. the back seats
never got used in fact they have creases in all of the belts, all in the
same spot as if they were never adjusted. She had all the maintenance done
by the dealership. OOOOOKKKKKK enough bragging but I just love this car.
It STILL smells like an OLDS. ANYONE WHO OWNS ONE KNOWS WHAT I MEAN!!
