The SX option included no interior items in its specifications list;
thus, the SX interior was identical to the standard Cutlass Supreme interior,
which was more luxurious than the rest of the Cutlass lineup, with wood-grained
door panels and bucket seats as standard items. Many of the sportier items
found on SX's, such as the Rally gauge package, a console shifter and a
sport steering wheel, were not part of the SX package itself, but were
options for the Cutlass Supreme model, and thus were also available for
the SX as well. Of course, luxury items such as air-conditioning, power
windows, AM/FM Stereo and/or tape player, cruise control and power door
locks were often ordered as well, befitting the luxury-sport image of the
Cutlass Supreme SX.
The distinctive differences between the interiors of the 1970 and the
1971 SX's were the patterns of the woodgrain and the stiching on the seats.
The 1970 woodgrain panels used a burl-pattern woodgrain, while the 1971
panels used a pattern with a straight grain.
Dashboard-
The standard dashboard included a chrome trim strip around the perimeter
of the dash pad, a woodgrain applique that matched the side interior panels,
and a three-opening gauge cluster with a speedometer in the center, a fuel-gauge
and warning lights in the left circle, and a blank faceplate in the right
circle. The optional clock would occupy the right circle when ordered.
The Rally Gauge package replaced the oil and temperature warning lights
with gauges in the left circle, and included a combination clock and tachomer
in the right circle.
Seating-
Bucket seats were standard equipment on all Cutlass Supremes, including
the SX; the custom sport bench with integral fold-down armrest was optional.
Power adjustment was available for either style of seat.
Steering Wheel-
The standard steering wheel for the Cutlass Supreme, and hence the
SX, was the Deluxe steering wheel; the Custom sport wheel was an extra-cost
option, as was the "rim-blow" version of the deluxe wheel.
Shifter-
Even though the SX came standard with bucket seats, the standard shift
lever for the mandatory TH400 automatic transmission option was column-mounted.
Two console mounted shifters were optional: the D55 woodgrain-ball console
shifter, or the W26 Hurst Dual-Gate shifter. Both of the optional consoles
also included a locking storage compartment and a rear-floor courtesy light.
