This is Teri's 1990 XLH
1200 that she named the "Piglet" because it's not a
"Hog". She bought it in 1998 with 7200 miles on it for
$5500. It was pretty much bone stock when she got it.
It's now got:
*11" Progressive rear shocks
*1 1/2" shorter fork springs
*Corbin close solo seat
*Flat track type bars
*Braided stainless cables
*Miscellaneous mandatory dealer chrome-brickbrack
*RevTec wheels, rotors & sprocket (all matching of course, it's
a girl thing)
*Samson two into one exhaust
*Laydown plate
*Ness billet turn signals, the rear are in the license plate frame
*3.5 gal. Tank
She has about 20 hrs into taking the yellowed, pitted clear coat off of the side cases and then doing the shoeshine to them. If you ever have to remove the clear coat from yours, use Permetex spray on gasket remover. She tried nearly chemical known to man, lacquer thinner, paint remover,MEK, oven cleaner, ect, ect and the gasket remover worked better than anything else. Spray it on, let the clear bubble up and wipe it off, repeat. Just don't get any on any paint.
She
had Gary Ebert (a friend of mine that has painted nationally known
racecars and hydroplanes like the Budweiser boat and of course
my FXS, he paints as many Harleys as he can now since he got the
bug with his high HP modified Sportster ) paint it a dark purple
and then he lettered it and pinstriped it with pink and lavender.
He painted the little piglet head that she wanted on the front
fender and under the rear light is a little pig butt with a little
curly tail made from a tiny piece of wire that is painted pink
and actually sticks out of the fender about a half an inch (Her
idea too).
I drilled new holes in the front fender bracket and
then cut the old holes off to lower the fender about a half an
inch.
The rear tire is a Metzeler 140/90-16 71V and it is FAT!
I didn't think you could get that big of a tire on a stock sporty, there is
about an eight inch clearance between it and the chain.
I have to say that I did not agree with
her vision of the pig theme and the colors before hand but you've
gotta agree that it turned out great and it is definitely a girls
bike. And no I don't think a Sportster is a girls bike it's just
that most guys wouldn't put pink pinstripes on their motorcycle.
