1970 was the last year for the production Wildcat. It would be replaced
by the heavier Centurion for 1971 through 1973. The 1970 Wildcat came with
Buick's top of the line engine, the 455. It wasn't the Stage 1 model, but
it was a torque monster just the same and could still kick the crap out
of small block Mustangs and Camaros. The engine was rated at 370 horsepower
and 510 lb-ft of torque with 10:1 compression. Mom could get her groceries
on Thursday and Junior could take it out on Friday night and blow his friends
into the weeds. Unfortunately for the Wildcat, this was also the first year
for the 454 Chevelle SS, the 455 Olds 442, the 400 Ram Air Pontiac GTO and
of course, the lighter, faster, and sportier 455 Buick GS. The writing was
on the wall and the Wildcat's days were numbered.
