Lisbon MidNight Club - Street Racing Since 1992

This is a 1985 model, that means it still has the first grill, later replaced by a new translucid plastic one. The looks are somewhat altered.... the car was lowered 5 Cm, that gave it an agressive look, and better handdling.(Sparco coil springs and Kyb/front Bilstein/back shocks)

Also, my car features special ATS wheels, very hard to find as they were custom made for this car back in the late 80's, usualy seen on Corolla competitions like Trophys or Rallys. There were two choices for size, 13" for graville or 14" for regular roads, mine are 13" (I tried 14" wheels and disliked it... made the car seem safer, somehow I prefer that "on the edge" feeling)

Now the engine. It's a 1587 Cm3 engine with 124 horse power at 6600 rpm (revs up to 8000 rpm easy though), and 14,5 Mkg of torque at 5200 rpm, officialy known as 4A-GE ("4" stands for a certain bottom end version (block, bore, stroke). The larger the number, the newer the bottom end version, "A" stands for the engine family, "G" stands for twin cam (wide angle, 45 degrees or more between the intake and exhaust valves), and "E" stands for Electronic Fuel Injection).

This little engine has a very interesting intake system called T-VIS (toyota variable induction system). T-VIS is a set of butterflies that close off one of the intake valve ports below 4500 rpm to increase air flow and fuel atomisation. They are operated by manifold vacuum, mainly to gain power at low rev's. Something like the driving experience you get from current VTEC's made by Honda. Additionaly, this was the first engine ever to be sold with a 16 valve head, that is, the first 16V of the planet!

This kind of power on only 970Kg of metal, makes it good for a blistering 8 sec. (0-100 km/h) and 205 Km/h top speed, and yes it will eat up all your money on gas!

This is a AE86L model ("A" stands for the engine type, "E" means it's a Corolla, "86" is the model generation, and the "L" stands for liftback) very unique and somewhat rare, specialy here in Portugal, only 500 of these cars where imported. The power flows through a magnificent 5 speed gear box to the rear wheels, with no LSD making it a little fierce to drive front engined RWD.
