Kanji translation by J. Lee of FTO.jpg (above):
Mitsubishi
Eclipse `99 April
New FTO is becoming a 3.0L V6?
The next eclipse is going to be American Made and is planned to be sold
in Japan. This April the Gundam (a very famous japanese robot animation
with more than 15 yrs of duration and numerous reiteration) Styling is being
shown. Engine is a 3L V6, and is becoming higher class than the current
model. (Don't know which car they are referencing to, FTO or Eclipse).
Furthermore, the Japanese FTO will be deleted, and from America, the NEW
FTO will be imported.
[Webmaster's
note: This is truly absurd. First of all, why are they
styling a car after a very famous fictional robot? Don't tell me,
"It's a japanese thing, I wouldn't understand." Secondly, how the
hell do they figure the 3G Eclipse (which is what the new FTO actually is)
is more refined than the current one? They base this on comparing
the 4G63 2.0L turbo vs. the 3.0L V6? If you ask me, they are making
a grave mistake. Granted, they are in debt and are trying to cut costs,
but if they are going to change the identities of their cars so drastically,
then they should just fold, just "give up the goat." Car manufacturing
should be based on tradition. Striving to continually make products
more refined won't necessarily make the car more desirable. Their
engineers and upper-management must do their reasoning with crack in their
systems. I hope Ford or Daimler-Chrysler acquires Mitsu before Mitsu
thoroughly ruins all that they've accomplished.]
